Esperanza Immersion Program

CURRICULUM

The Esperanza Spanish Language Immersion Program hosts participants for two-weeks of intensive learning about the Spanish language, Mexican culture, and Tijuana's unique features. The program is divided into three parts:

SPANISH CLASSES

OBJECTIVE

To enable participants to communicate in Spanish through simple conversations, vocabulary and grammar rules.

LANGUAGE LEVELS

There are two levels: Beginners and Intermediate/ Advanced. A placement test is given to determine the level of each student.

SCHEDULE

The classes are 3 days per week during the morning and the afternoon, 3 hours in each turn with a 30-minute recess plus some classes on the weekend. This is a total of 40 classroom hours.

TEACHING METHOD

We use a combination of methods to adapt the classes to dyamic of the participants. A unique feature of our program is that we invite local, spanish-speaking community members to share their language, cultures and traditions.

PROGRAM MATERIALS

A binder is handed out to the participants, with written exercises and all the information about the course.

READINGS

OBJECTIVE

Through simple readings, the participant learn more about Mexican history, important festivities, traditions, food etc.

TOPICS

The readings are passed out after each class. The topics are related to the field activities and important historical dates.

FIELD ACTIVITIES

OBJECTIVE

Through these activities the participants would appreciate and know Tijuana’s representative sites.

SITES

Valle de Guadalupe ( famous vineyards ), Hidalgo Market, The Californias Museum, Tijuana’s communities and more

SCHEDULE

On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of the first week and Tuesday and Thursday of the second week.

TRANSPORTATION

We provide transportation to and from all the activities.
